Putting People's Civil Rights Up For Vote?

Marriage between a man and a woman has, for millenia, been the thread to hold civilization together. Redefining it is another attempt to change the foundations of our society. It's a temper tantrum being thrown by a handful of people used to getting their way by making life miserable for others - sound familiar if you've got a spoiled child ? "Civil unions" would serve the same purpose without the unintended consequences of redefining marriage.
