How do I get my three year old to bed?

My (almost) three year old son throws a fit when its time for bed. He wants us to sleep with him SO BAD even though he has never slept in our bed. We have a pretty normal routine, bath, PJ's, clean up, bed time story's and then he goes into his bed and pleads with us to stay with him "just a little bit". Well we have tried "just a little bit" and it never ends so we stopped that and put him to bed, said good night and would close the door. Thats when the tears start and the screaming begins. We have let him scream bloody murder for two hours hopeing he would tire out, but instead he lost his voice and got sick. He sometimes stays up until 11pm crying, its getting ridiculous. Threats are not working (no more toys, no treats, no friends, etc...) Im running out of ideas.
