How can I delete a group that is pending membership?

I thought I was trying to join a particular group but it wasn't the group I thought. This group requires the moderator to accept your membership. Apparently this group is defunct because it's been hanging at this point for 2 months. How can I delete it? I can't choose to leave the group because I'm not a member yet, lol. Help!
