Does a lawn tractor have a power generator?

Mine is a 19hp Crasfatman. I recharged the batt, but it was still dead. I recharged another one and used it. It ran but after a while it wouldn't restart. Guess I'll have to splurge for a new one. Is there a generator that charges it while running? Also, how often should you sharpen the blades?
