Can anyone shed some light on how to form irrelgular verbs etc?

It would help to know what language you're referring to but generally, speaking, there are no real rules for forming irregular verbs. You just have to learn each one as you come across it. Fortunately, the irregular verbs tend to be the most common ones - to be, to go, to have, etc. which means you'll get plenty of practice.
